People often ask why we call ourselves 'Activ8'?
We chose the name because we are trying to encourage more people in the wider community to think of mental health as they do physical health. An important part of what we are aiming to do is to reduce the stigma, prejudice and discrimination faced by people who live an experience of mental health distress.
By using a 'neutral' sounding name as opposed to 'Mind' we are hoping that people will be more willing to actively involve themselves in our work by visiting our building and by talking to the people within it, coming away with a more positive attitude to the issues.
Activ8 is a developing set of projects which support people, particularly those who experience mental health distress, to access the following activities. We like people to take an 'active' part in the 'eight' areas of interest:
» social interaction
» art & creativity
» access to volunteering / employment
» information
» self-help
» physical activities
