Role Title: Befriender

Main Objectives: To offer a one-to-one supportive relationship to people with mental health problems who have requested a Befriender. The aim is to support the client to identify what is needed in their social structure, and through regular contact, work together to achieve that goal.

Main duties:

1. To meet with the client on a regular basis.

2. To take part in appropriate agreed interests and activities with the client.

3. With the client, to familiarise themselves with local services and amenities, according to the client's interest.

4. To relate to the client in a respectful way and adhere to Focus operational policies.

5. To maintain confidentiality within the guidelines of the scheme.

7. To work on own initiative within the Focus Befriending Scheme policies and procedures.

8. To take part in the initial training programme and any additional training throughout the year.

9. To attend 1:1 supervision and group support sessions, and bring any issues of concern to the attention of the Scheme Co-ordinator.

Befriending is a very individual support, and the client will specify their interest and needs with the Scheme Co-ordinator and the Befriender involved.
