There are four opportunities to access this free training for people living in the Hastings & Rother locality in the New Year - the dates & overview are attached.
'MHFA' is an intensive 12-hour course developed in 2000 by Betty Kitchener and Professor Tony Jorm in Australia. It has since been embraced by various countries, including more recently England. The website www.mhfa.com.au offers an overview of the training & its background.
MHFA training is open to anyone and we actively encourage individuals from all walks of life to participate. You do not need to be in employment, however if you are part of a department or organisation working in the public or commercial sector we will be happy to provide the training to your group, but only on the dates specified as these are the only courses we can currently offer for free. The venues are to be announced nearer the time but will be in the Hastings or Rother area.
Participants receive a course manual and also a certificate at the completion of the course. Those who have finished the course have been very positive about the knowledge and skills they have acquired. In Scotland a recent evaluation has been carried out, it can be found via www.smhfa.com
Delivery of the course will be by members of the regional team of trainers who specialise in facilitating Mental Health First Aid Training, and are supported by the National Institute for Mental Health in England (NIMHE).
