Volunteer Opportunities at Activ8
One of the main aims of the Activ8 project is to enable people to work in a friendly, supported setting, at their own pace and in their own time, allowing them to regain confidence and belief in their skills and abilities. Through this process, people find their own way forward towards new interests, activities, education or work. A number of volunteers over the past year have gone on to employment or training, others have developed or extended interests, made new friends or simply rediscovered their own sense of self.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
Activ8 Shop - our Arts and Crafts Shop is now becoming well-established, but we still have opportunities for people to work in it - various slots are available throughout the week-a couple of hours, a half day or whole day. Help out in any way you want with the running of the shop - stock taking; sales; display work; etc. in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
Take a look at the Activ8 Shop information on this website for more details.
Arts and craft tutors/facilitators - we currently run arts and crafts workshops at our Hastings base on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but would like to extend this to other days. If you have experience in the arts field and would like to run a group or one-off workshop in your particular art or craft speciality, just let us know.
Befriending Scheme - Focus on Mental Health runs a Befriending Scheme which supports isolated individuals living in the community. A full introductory training programme is available and on-going training and support is provided. For more detailed information, check the Befriending page on this website.
Complementary therapists - we are looking for people to offer various complementary therapies on a voluntary basis- this might be an ideal way to gain practice experience for newly qualified practitioners. We have our Well-being suite available, with massage couch and facilities.
Painting/decorating/maintenance - there are various tasks that need attending to from time to time throughout the building, also general upkeep of the building.
Cleaning - we always require help to keep the building looking clean and tidy - a couple of hours a week makes all the difference.
Other opportunities - There may also be opportunities according to your interests and skills - for example, if you wanted to run a creative writing group, or sports/leisure activities, we would love to hear from you. If you would like to discuss any ideas you may have for developing other projects, contact Activ8.
Volunteers at Activ8 can receive regular 1:1 Supervision with the Co-ordinator, and there may be an opportunity to attend Group Support sessions. In addition to role-specific induction and training, we hope to encourage volunteers to take up further training opportunities according to need.
Volunteers are entitled to all expenses (travel, lunch etc) being refunded.
